Network coverage in Sweden
Your Travelren eSIM runs on Telenor, one of Sweden's national networks, on 4G, with 5G in the cities on some plans. Coverage is strong in Stockholm, including the metro, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala, along the main rail lines and motorways, and in the towns of the south and the west coast.

Much of Sweden is forest and mountain, though, and signal thins in the far north. Around Kiruna, Abisko and Jukkasjärvi, the towns are covered, but hiking trails such as the Kungsleden and remote wilderness in Lapland have long gaps. The Stockholm archipelago is covered on the larger islands and patchy between them.

Arriving in Sweden
Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) is the main international airport, about 20 minutes from the city on the Arlanda Express, with Gothenburg (GOT) and Kiruna (KRN) the gateways to the west coast and Lapland. Sweden uses the krona (SEK), not the euro, and it's one of the most cashless countries in the world: many shops, cafes and buses don't accept cash at all, so a contactless card or phone wallet is essential.

In Stockholm, the SL app sells tickets for the metro, buses and commuter ferries. Trains are fast and comfortable between the cities, and overnight sleeper trains run north to Lapland.
Installing your Sweden eSIM
Install your Sweden eSIM before your trip on WiFi by scanning the QR code in your order email (iPhone: Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM; Android: Settings, SIM manager, Add eSIM). There's no APN to set. When you land at Arlanda or another Swedish airport, make the eSIM your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it.

Download offline maps before heading into Lapland or the archipelago.
Common questions
Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in Sweden?
Telenor, on 4G, with 5G in the cities on some plans. It covers the cities, main roads and rail lines, and the APN sets itself, so it connects once data roaming is on for the eSIM line.
Will I have signal in Swedish Lapland?
In Kiruna, Abisko, Jukkasjärvi and the other towns, yes. On the Kungsleden and other wilderness trails, there are long stretches without signal. Download maps before heading out, and check northern lights and weather forecasts while you're in town.
How much does Telstra charge to roam in Sweden?
Sweden is in Zone 2 of Telstra's International Day Pass: A$10 a day with 2 GB of data a day, checked September 2026. AT&T's International Day Pass is US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is one payment for your trip.
When does my Sweden plan start?
When your phone first connects to a network in Sweden. You can install the eSIM at home and the days begin once you land and connect.
Show 4 more questions
Do I need cash in Sweden?
Almost never, and many places won't take it. Shops, cafes, museums and public transport are card or phone only in many cases. Bring a contactless card or phone wallet, and a second card as a backup.
Does the Sweden plan work in Denmark or Norway?
No. It covers Sweden only, so it stops when you cross the Øresund Bridge to Copenhagen or drive into Norway. Buy a plan for each country, or a Europe plan that lists all of them.
Does the eSIM work in the Stockholm metro?
Yes. Stockholm's metro, commuter trains and buses have mobile coverage, so you can keep navigating, messaging and checking departures underground, including on the longer tunnelled stretches between stations.
Is 5G available on the Sweden plans?
On some of them. Several Sweden plans include 5G in the cities, while others run on 4G, which still handles video calls, streaming and navigation comfortably.
