Middle East eSIM coverage

A regional Middle East eSIM covers the Gulf states and the wider region on one plan — handy for a trip that pairs Dubai or Abu Dhabi with Qatar, Oman or Jordan. Coverage across the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf cities is excellent: some of the densest, fastest 5G networks anywhere, built out for major cities and business hubs. The important regional quirk is VoIP: several Middle Eastern countries restrict or block WhatsApp and FaceTime voice and video calls on local networks, so if you rely on those to call home, check whether the specific eSIM routes in a way that keeps them working — it's the single most common surprise travellers hit in the region. Data itself, for maps, browsing and messaging, is fast and reliable across the Gulf.

Common questions

Will WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work on a Middle East eSIM?
This is the region's big caveat. Several Gulf countries — the UAE among them — restrict VoIP voice and video calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype) on local networks. Whether they work on a given travel eSIM depends on how that plan routes its traffic; some do keep them working, some don't. If calling home over these apps matters, verify it for the specific plan rather than assuming.
Which countries does a regional Middle East eSIM cover?
Usually the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and others — with Turkey sometimes included in either the Middle East or Europe grouping depending on the provider. Check the plan's country list, especially if Turkey or Israel is on your itinerary.
Is data coverage good in Dubai and the Gulf cities?
Excellent — the Gulf cities run some of the fastest, most widely deployed 5G networks in the world. For data, browsing, maps and streaming, you'll have strong, quick coverage across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh and the other major hubs.
Do I need a single-country UAE eSIM or the regional plan?
For a UAE-only trip, a single-country plan is usually cheaper. The regional Middle East plan is worth it when you're combining the UAE with Oman, Qatar, Jordan or another country on the same trip and don't want to swap SIMs at each border.
