Network coverage in Jordan

Your Travelren eSIM runs on Zain, Jordan's largest mobile network, on LTE. Coverage is good in Amman, Aqaba and Madaba, at the Dead Sea resorts, in Wadi Musa next to Petra and along the Desert and King's Highways.

It gets patchier in the places many visitors come for. Inside Petra, signal is available around the main routes but fades in the narrow Siq and on climbs to the Monastery and High Place of Sacrifice. In Wadi Rum, the village and some camps have signal, while the open desert has little. Jordan plans need their APN entered by hand as globaldata, and all plans are capped, from 1 GB to 20 GB.

Arriving in Jordan

Most visitors fly into Queen Alia International (AMM), about 35 km south of Amman, and some arrive at Aqaba (AQJ) on the Red Sea. The Jordan Pass, bought online before you arrive, includes entry to Petra and dozens of other sites and waives the tourist visa fee for visitors staying at least three nights.

Jordan uses the dinar (JOD). Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants, while taxis, small shops, Bedouin camps and tips are cash. Many visitors hire a car or a driver, since public transport between sites is limited. Petra rewards an early start, before the day-trip crowds arrive.

Installing your Jordan eSIM

Install your Jordan eSIM before you travel, on WiFi, by scanning the QR code in your order email (iPhone: Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM; Android: Settings, SIM manager, Add eSIM). Then set the APN to globaldata in the eSIM's mobile data network settings, as Jordan plans don't set it themselves. On landing, choose the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it.

Common questions

Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in Jordan?

Zain, Jordan's largest network, on LTE. After installing, set the APN to globaldata in the eSIM's mobile data settings, or data won't start. Your order confirmation shows the APN too.

How do I set the APN for Jordan?

On iPhone: Settings, Mobile Data, choose the Jordan eSIM, Mobile Data Network, then enter globaldata as the APN. On Android: open the eSIM's Access Point Names, add a new APN and type globaldata. Save and select it, then restart the phone if needed.

Will I have signal inside Petra?

Around the main paths and the Treasury, generally yes, but it fades in the Siq and on climbs to the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice. Download a map of the site before you go in, and agree a meeting point with your group.

Does the eSIM work in Wadi Rum?

In Rum village and at some camps, yes. Out on jeep tours and in the open desert, there's little or no signal. Let your camp know your arrival time before you leave the village, and treat the desert as offline time.

Does Telstra's International Day Pass cover Jordan?

No. Jordan isn't on Telstra's International Day Pass list, checked September 2026, so Telstra customers pay standard roaming rates there. AT&T's International Day Pass does cover Jordan, at US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is one price for your trip.

When does my Jordan plan start?

When your phone first connects to a network in Jordan. Install the eSIM and set the APN at home, and the days begin when you land.

What is the Jordan Pass?

An online pass, bought before arrival, that includes entry to Petra and more than 40 other sites and waives the tourist visa fee if you stay at least three nights. It's worth buying for most itineraries that include Petra.

Do I need cash in Jordan?

Yes, some. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants, but taxis, small shops, Bedouin camps and tips usually need dinars. ATMs are easy to find in Amman, Aqaba and Wadi Musa.
