Network coverage in Argentina
Your Travelren eSIM runs on Movistar, one of Argentina's main networks, on 4G. Coverage is good in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta and Bariloche, and in the main tourist towns of Patagonia, including El Calafate and Ushuaia.

It thins across the enormous distances in between. Routes such as Ruta 40 have long stretches without signal, El Chaltén's trails are mostly offline once you leave town, and the Perito Moreno glacier viewing area has limited coverage. At Iguazú, the Argentine side of the falls is covered, but crossing to the Brazilian side means leaving this plan's coverage. Plan road trips and hikes with offline maps.

Watch out for
- Long gaps on Ruta 40 and remote Patagonian roads

Arriving in Argentina
Most international flights land at Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE), about 45 minutes from the city, while domestic flights use Aeroparque (AEP), close to the centre. Argentina uses the peso (ARS), and prices change often because of inflation, so menus and price lists may look out of date.

Cards are widely accepted in cities, but cash is still useful for small shops, markets and tips. Distances are vast, so most visitors fly between Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Mendoza and the north-west. Dinner in Buenos Aires starts late, and many restaurants don't fill up until after 9pm. Long-distance buses are comfortable and a common alternative to flying on shorter routes.
Installing your Argentina eSIM
Install your Argentina eSIM before you fly while you're on WiFi: scan the QR code from your order email in Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM on iPhone, or the SIM manager on Android. The APN sets itself. When you land at Ezeiza, set the eSIM as your mobile data line and switch on data roaming for it.

Common questions
Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in Argentina?
Movistar, on 4G. It covers Buenos Aires, the other large cities and the main tourist towns. The APN sets itself, so once data roaming is on for the eSIM line, it connects automatically.
Does the eSIM work at Iguazú Falls?
On the Argentine side, around Puerto Iguazú and the park, yes. The Brazilian side, reached from Foz do Iguaçu, is outside this plan's coverage, so a trip to both sides needs a Brazil plan as well.
Will I have signal in El Chaltén and on Ruta 40?
In El Chaltén town, yes, though it can be slow. Once you're on the trails to Laguna de los Tres or Cerro Torre, expect little or no signal. Ruta 40 has long stretches with none. Download offline maps and let someone know your route.
How much does Telstra charge to roam in Argentina?
Argentina is in Zone 2 of Telstra's International Day Pass: A$10 a day with 2 GB of data a day, checked September 2026. AT&T's International Day Pass is US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is paid once for your trip.

When does my Argentina plan start?
When your phone first connects to a network in Argentina, not when you buy or install it, so you can set it up before you fly.
Can I use the eSIM on the ferry to Uruguay?
Only while the ferry is still near the Argentine side. Colonia and Montevideo are in Uruguay, which this plan doesn't cover, so buy a Uruguay plan for a day trip or longer stay.
Should I pay by card or cash in Argentina?
Both. Cards are accepted widely in cities and are usually straightforward for visitors, while cash in pesos helps for small shops, markets, tips and remote areas. Prices move quickly with inflation, so check the current total before you pay.
Is WhatsApp important in Argentina?
Very. Hotels, tour operators, restaurants and drivers use WhatsApp for bookings and questions, so having data from the moment you land makes getting around much easier.
