Network coverage in the Bahamas
Your Travelren eSIM runs on Aliv, one of the two mobile networks in the Bahamas, on 4G. Coverage is good on New Providence, including Nassau, Cable Beach and Paradise Island, and on Grand Bahama around Freeport and Lucaya.

The Out Islands vary a lot: the main settlements on Eleuthera, the Exumas and Abaco generally have signal, while remote cays, stretches of coast between settlements and much of the water around them do not. On boat days out to the cays, expect gaps. The plans are capped, from 1 GB to 5 GB, which suits maps, messaging and photo sharing rather than heavy streaming.

Arriving in the Bahamas
Most visitors fly into Lynden Pindling International (NAS) in Nassau, and many more arrive by cruise ship at Nassau or Freeport. The Bahamian dollar is pegged one to one with the US dollar, and both are accepted everywhere, often with change given in a mix of the two.

Cards work in resorts, restaurants and larger shops, while jitney buses, water taxis, straw markets and tips are cash. Many resorts add a service charge to bills. Getting to the Out Islands means a domestic flight, a ferry or a mail boat, and schedules can change with the weather. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
Installing your Bahamas eSIM
Install your Bahamas eSIM on WiFi before you travel: scan the QR code from your order email under Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM on iPhone, or in the SIM manager on Android. No APN setup is needed. When you arrive, set the eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it.

On a cruise, keep roaming off on your home line while at sea.
Common questions
Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in the Bahamas?
Aliv, on 4G. It covers Nassau, Paradise Island, Grand Bahama and the main settlements on the larger Out Islands. The APN sets itself, so once data roaming is on for the eSIM line, it connects automatically.
Will the eSIM work on a cruise stop in Nassau?
Yes. Once your phone connects to Aliv in port, you have data for the day ashore without paying for ship WiFi. At sea, turn off roaming on your home line, because ships' onboard networks charge much higher rates.
Will I have signal in the Exumas?
Around the main settlements, such as George Town, generally yes. On boat trips to the cays, including the swimming pigs, coverage comes and goes. Download maps and confirm pickups before heading out.
Does Telstra's International Day Pass cover the Bahamas?
No. The Bahamas isn't on Telstra's International Day Pass list, checked September 2026, so Telstra customers pay standard roaming rates. AT&T's International Day Pass includes the Bahamas at US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is one price for your trip.

When does my Bahamas plan start?
When your phone first connects to a network in the Bahamas. Installing the eSIM at home doesn't use any of your days, so you can set it up before a cruise or flight.
How much data do the Bahamas plans include?
They're capped, from 1 GB for 7 days up to 5 GB for 30 days. That's enough for maps, messaging and sharing photos; use resort WiFi for streaming and video calls if you're on a smaller plan.
Do I need Bahamian dollars?
No. US dollars are accepted everywhere at the same value, and cards work in resorts and most restaurants. Carry some small notes for jitneys, water taxis, markets and tips.
Is resort WiFi enough in the Bahamas?
Often it covers rooms and the lobby, but not always the beach, the pool or excursions. Your own data works anywhere Aliv has signal, including taxis, day trips and cruise stops.
