Oceania eSIM coverage

A regional Oceania eSIM ties together Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands on one plan — useful if you're combining an Australia trip with New Zealand, or island-hopping through Fiji, Samoa and beyond. Australia and New Zealand have excellent, if geographically concentrated, coverage: strong 4G and 5G along the populated east coast of Australia and across both New Zealand islands, thinning out fast across the Outback and the more remote South Island. The Pacific islands are the real variable — Fiji's main tourist areas are well served, but coverage on smaller islands and atolls across Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomons ranges from patchy to non-existent, so plan those legs expecting to be offline more than on.

Common questions

Does one Oceania eSIM cover both Australia and New Zealand?
If both are on the plan's list, yes — a single eSIM works across the Tasman with no swap, which suits the common Australia-plus-New-Zealand trip. Confirm the country list before buying, and if you're only visiting one of the two, a single-country plan is usually cheaper.
Is coverage good in the Australian Outback?
Along the populated east coast and in the cities, excellent. Across the Outback and remote interior, coverage is thin on every network — this is a distance-and-population issue, not an eSIM limitation. For remote road trips, download offline maps and don't rely on a signal between towns.
Will the eSIM work on the smaller Pacific islands?
Main tourist areas in Fiji and the larger island capitals are generally covered, but smaller islands and atolls across Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomons are patchy to offline. Check the specific plan's Pacific coverage, and treat remote-island legs as largely disconnected.
Do I need an eSIM if I'm only visiting Australia?
A single-country Australia eSIM will usually be cheaper and simpler than a regional Oceania plan for an Australia-only trip. The regional plan earns its keep when you're crossing to New Zealand or the Pacific on the same journey.
