Network coverage in Cyprus
Your Travelren eSIM runs on PrimeTel, one of the Republic of Cyprus's mobile networks, on LTE. Coverage is good in Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Nicosia and Ayia Napa, along the motorway linking them, and at the main beaches around Protaras and Coral Bay.

The Troodos Mountains are covered in the villages but patchier on forest roads and trails, and the Akamas peninsula has gaps. The biggest thing to know is political rather than technical: the north of the island, beyond the Green Line, has its own separate mobile networks, and this plan lists no network there, so don't count on it if you cross into Northern Cyprus.

Arriving in Cyprus
Most visitors land at Larnaca (LCA) or Paphos (PFO), both with good coverage. The Republic of Cyprus uses the euro, and cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops, though smaller tavernas and kiosks may prefer cash.

Driving is on the left, and a hire car is the easiest way to explore, as buses between towns are infrequent away from the main routes. The island is divided: crossing points in Nicosia and elsewhere let visitors walk or drive into the north, where the Turkish lira is used alongside euros and the mobile networks are separate. Check that your hire-car insurance and phone plan cover the north before you go.
Installing your Cyprus eSIM
Install your Cyprus eSIM on WiFi before you fly: scan the QR code from your order email in Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM on iPhone, or through the SIM manager on Android. No APN setup is needed. On arrival at Larnaca or Paphos, choose the eSIM for mobile data and enable data roaming for it.

Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts, with its roaming off. Download offline maps if you're heading into the mountains or across to the north.
Common questions
Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in Cyprus?
PrimeTel, on LTE. It covers the Republic of Cyprus, including Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Nicosia and Ayia Napa. The APN is set automatically, so it connects once data roaming is on for the eSIM line.
Does the Cyprus eSIM work in Northern Cyprus?
Don't rely on it. The north, beyond the Green Line, runs its own mobile networks, separate from the Republic's, and this plan lists coverage in the Republic only. If you're planning a day trip to Kyrenia or north Nicosia, download maps first and expect to be without data once you cross.
Will I have signal in the Troodos Mountains?
In the villages, such as Platres, Kakopetria and Omodos, generally yes. On forest roads, nature trails and around the higher peaks, signal can drop out, so download offline maps before heading up.
How much does Telstra charge to roam in Cyprus?
Cyprus is in Zone 2 of Telstra's International Day Pass: A$10 a day with 2 GB of data a day, checked September 2026. AT&T's International Day Pass is US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is paid once for your whole trip.

When does my Cyprus plan start?
When your phone first connects to a network in Cyprus. Installing the eSIM before you fly doesn't use any days, so you can set it up at home and the plan starts when you land at Larnaca or Paphos.
Is LTE fast enough in Cyprus?
Yes. In the towns and resort areas it handles video calls, streaming and navigation easily. In the mountains and on the more remote coastline, whether there's signal matters more than its speed.
Do I need cash in Cyprus?
Not much. Cards work in most hotels, restaurants and shops in the Republic. Carry some euro for village tavernas, kiosks and beach sunbeds, which are often cash only.
Should I hire a car in Cyprus?
For most itineraries, yes. Buses link the main towns, but beaches, villages and the Troodos are much easier by car. Driving is on the left, and live data helps with navigation. If you plan to drive into the north, check your rental terms first, as many hire companies don't insure cars there.
