Network coverage in Belgium
Your Travelren eSIM runs on BASE, one of Belgium's mobile networks, with 5G in the cities. Belgium is small and densely populated, so coverage is close to complete: Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Liège are fully covered, as are the intercity trains, motorways and the coast from De Panne to Knokke.

The only real gaps are in the Ardennes in the south-east, where forested valleys and small villages can have weak signal. The plan covers Belgium only, so trips across the border to Amsterdam, Lille, Paris or Luxembourg need another plan, and your phone may pick up a neighbouring network near the border.

Arriving in Belgium
Brussels Airport (BRU) is about 20 minutes from the city by train, while Brussels South Charleroi (CRL), used by budget airlines, is about an hour away by bus. Eurostar trains from London arrive at Brussels-Midi, and high-speed trains link Brussels with Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne.

Belgium uses the euro, and cards and contactless payments are widely accepted, though a few older cafes and market stalls prefer cash. Trains between the main cities are frequent and quick, making Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp easy day trips from Brussels. Belgium has three official languages, with Dutch in the north and French in the south.
Installing your Belgium eSIM
Install your Belgium eSIM before you travel, on WiFi, by scanning the QR code from your order email (iPhone: Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM; Android: Settings, SIM manager, Add eSIM). No APN setup is needed. When you arrive, set the eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it.

Common questions
Which network does the Travelren eSIM use in Belgium?
BASE, with 5G in the cities. It covers the whole country, including trains and motorways. The APN is set automatically, so it connects once data roaming is on for the eSIM line.
Does the Belgium plan work in the Netherlands or France?
No. It covers Belgium only, so day trips to Amsterdam, Lille or Paris need their own plan, or a Europe plan that lists every country on your route. Near the border, check your phone hasn't switched to a neighbouring network.
How much does Telstra charge to roam in Belgium?
Belgium is in Zone 2 of Telstra's International Day Pass: A$10 a day with 2 GB of data a day, checked September 2026. AT&T's International Day Pass is US$12 a day. A Travelren plan is paid once for the trip.
When does my Belgium plan start?
When your phone first connects to a network in Belgium. You can install the eSIM at home, and the days begin when you arrive by plane or Eurostar.
Show 4 more questions
Does the eSIM work on the Eurostar?
Once the train is in Belgium, yes. In the Channel Tunnel and while crossing France, your phone will be on other networks that this plan doesn't cover, so expect data to start as you approach Brussels.
Will I have signal in the Ardennes?
In the towns, such as Durbuy, Bouillon and Dinant, generally yes. In forested valleys and on hiking trails, signal can be weak. Download maps before a hiking or kayaking day.
Do I need cash in Belgium?
Not much. Cards and contactless payments work in most shops, restaurants and on public transport. Keep a few euro for older cafes, markets and public toilets.
Is 5G available on the Belgium plan?
Yes, in the cities and larger towns, if your phone supports it. Elsewhere you'll use 4G, which still handles video calls, streaming and navigation comfortably, including on the trains.
