Getting Started
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built directly into your phone. Instead of a physical plastic card, you download a data plan via a QR code. It works alongside your existing SIM so you keep your home number while using a local data plan abroad.
Most iPhones from XS onwards (2018+), Samsung Galaxy S20+, and Google Pixel 3+ support eSIM. The fastest way to check is to dial *#06# on your phone — if you see an EID number, you're eSIM compatible. You can also use our device checker.
Yes. This is one of the biggest advantages of eSIM. Your physical SIM stays in the phone for your home number and calls. The Travelren eSIM runs as a second line for data while you're abroad. You can receive calls and texts on your home number without any roaming charges.
Install it before you leave home — ideally 24–48 hours before your flight. You'll need a WiFi connection to scan the QR code. The eSIM won't activate until you land and turn on data roaming, so there's no rush once installed.
Yes — and this is our speciality. Our China eSIMs route through international servers, giving you unrestricted access to Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and other services that are blocked in China. You don't need any extra apps or VPN setup. It works out of the box the moment you land.
Purchase & Payment
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), PayPal, and Apple Pay / Google Pay. All payments are processed securely via Stripe.
Instantly. As soon as your payment is confirmed, you'll receive an email with your QR code. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes from purchase to installation.
We offer a full refund if the eSIM hasn't been activated (i.e. you haven't scanned the QR code). Once activated, we can't refund unused data. If you have a technical issue that prevents the eSIM from working, contact us and we'll make it right.
Yes, all prices shown are in Australian Dollars (AUD) unless stated otherwise. If you're purchasing from another country, your card provider will convert at the current exchange rate.
Installation & Setup
1. Open your confirmation email and find the QR code. 2. On your iPhone, go to Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM. 3. Tap "Use QR Code" and scan the code from the email. 4. Follow the prompts — it takes about 2 minutes. 5. When abroad, go to Settings → Mobile Data → select your Travelren eSIM as the data line.
Steps vary slightly by manufacturer but generally: 1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIM cards (or Mobile Network). 2. Tap "Add eSIM" or the + icon. 3. Choose "Scan QR code" and scan from your confirmation email. 4. Follow prompts to activate. Contact us if you need model-specific help.
Yes, you need an internet connection (WiFi or mobile data) to download and activate the eSIM profile. This is why we recommend installing it at home before you travel, not at the airport.
No. Each QR code can only be scanned once and is tied to one device. If you need eSIMs for multiple devices, purchase separate plans for each.
Using Your eSIM
Simply turn on data roaming in your phone settings when you land. On iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → select your Travelren eSIM → turn on Data Roaming. Your eSIM will connect automatically to a local network within a few minutes.
On iPhone, go to Settings → Mobile Data → select your Travelren eSIM to see usage. On Android, go to Settings → Network → Data Usage. You can also log into your Travelren account to see remaining data.
This depends on the specific plan. Most of our plans support hotspot/tethering. Check the plan details before purchasing. Note that hotspot usage counts towards your data allowance.
For capped plans, data stops and you'll need to purchase a top-up. For unlimited plans, speeds may be reduced after a fair-use threshold. You can purchase an additional plan and install it on your device while abroad.
Troubleshooting
Try these steps in order: 1. Make sure data roaming is turned ON for your eSIM line. 2. Toggle aeroplane mode on and off to force a network refresh. 3. Restart your phone. 4. Check you've selected the Travelren eSIM as your data line, not your home SIM. If still not working, email us at hello@travelren.com and we'll fix it immediately.
If scanning doesn't work, you can enter the activation code manually. In your phone's eSIM settings, look for "Enter details manually" or "Add using code". Copy the code from your email and enter it directly. Contact us if you need the manual code sent separately.
Slow speeds can happen when: you've exceeded a fair-use threshold, you're in an area with weak coverage, or your phone's APN settings need updating. Try toggling aeroplane mode. If it persists, contact us with your order number and we'll investigate.
Unfortunately each QR code can only be used once. If you delete your eSIM and need to reinstall, contact us immediately with your order details. We may be able to issue a replacement depending on the circumstances and how much data remains unused.
